Kawartha Speedway 2012: Practice Perfects Performance
By Jim Clarke, Kawartha Speedway PR/Clarke Motorsports Communications

JP Josiasse is a Good Neighbour
By Jim Clarke, Kawartha Speedway PR/Clarke Motorsports Communications

Speedway promoters are a unique breed. They’re not just sitting back counting the money as the crowd comes through the gates. In most cases, they’re fans of the sport and in some instances, even competitors. Kawartha’s Derek Lynch is a race winner in the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series and has turned laps on some of North America’s most famous venues. Sunset Speedway’s Mark Dilley still campaigns a competitive Canadian Tire Series ride and at Brighton Speedway, Mark Rinaldi raced a street stock on a limited basis and even climbed behind the wheel of a DIRTcar sportsman modified. JP Josiasse – owner and promoter at Peterborough Speedway – is cut from the same cloth.

After enduring a few frustrating seasons running an older chassis in Kawartha Speedway’s NAPA Auto Parts ACT Late Model division, the Norwood, Ontario racer will head into the 2012 campaign at the controls of new McColl Racing Enterprises machine. Making the change to an updated piece is more than just jumping behind the wheel and taking the green flag. There are long hours in the shop before getting to that point.

Craig Scott: Powering A Part-Time Passion
By Jim Clarke, Kawartha Speedway PR/Clarke Motorsports Communications

A busy work schedule can be either a blessing, or a curse. Omemee, Ontario’s Craig Scott would love to be a regular runner in Kawartha Speedway’s Better Carpet Thunder Car field, but his full-time position as Vice President of Operations for Hy-Tech Drilling places so many demands on his to-do list, he’s only able to make it to the track a couple of times a year. The 59 year-old father of 4 – who got his first taste of the sport at the now defunct North Bay Speedway, a track once owned by pit crew member Gary Harling – says that even with a limited schedule, he still looks forward to the adrenalin rush that comes with running side-by-side with a trusted driver.

ARRIVE AND DRIVE INTRODUCES: WILLOW BABERSTOCK
By: Jamie Horner, Horner Racing

Exhilarating, thrilling, and fast paced are words used to describe racing. Racing can also be described as an increasingly expensive hobby. Starting out in the sport is one of the most difficult ventures to take part in. In order to drive in many of the organizations across Ontario you need to have your own equipment, or at least be willing to dish out a considerable amount of money to have someone else do the work. In my opinion this is one of the reasons that the sport seems to have dwindled in past years in combination with the economic downturn throughout North America.

Construction begins at the "Capital City Speedway Motor Sports Park"
By: Cayuga Speedway PR

Today was not the first day of work on the 2012 season, but it was the first day of construction for what will be the best year CCS has seen in a decade or more. Today, I felt like a fat kid in a candy store, as it was the start of a vision I have had since my short time as the operator of CCS. Today was the beginning for what I would like to now call the "Capital City Speedway Motor Sports Park". To remain viable in business today, you have to think creatively and find new and other sources of income. We have listened to our customers, old and new, and have given them what they want. A place to come and enjoy the many various motor sports activities which exist today. Last year we had the Stock Car program and re-introduced Drifting during the season. This year we will have an even better stock car program than we did last year, we have expanded our Drifting operations which will now include a better Drifting track. We will re-open the Drag Strip, and are now offering Time Attack and Lapping sessions. We think with the addition of these programs and the addition of others possibly as early as next year, will guarantee the financial stability of the property in the long run. What that means to all of you is, we will be around for your enjoyment for many years to come.

Thank you. <3 #14
By: Jamie Horner - Horner Racing - 3/15/2012

Due to all of the help from members of the fan site and friends from my facebook page I have been given a recurring writing spot on female racing news. As long as people keep reading them I can keep writing. I am extremely happy about this development and it has already started to open doors for the Horner Racing team that I never thought were possible. So I would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who ready the intro blog and took the time to like the article. Another big thank you goes out to Amanda Martin for allowing this Canadian driver (me!) the chance to wrtie for femaleracingnews.com. My next blog will go live tomorrow Thursday March 15th at noon. The fans voted that they wanted to hear about my favourite racing moment. Soooo that is exactly what i wrote about. :) In future if you all have other ideas you would like to see me write about just post them on the horner racing fan site and I will see what I can do.
Thanks, Jamie Horner #14

By: Horner Racing - 3/15/2012

Over the years there have been many off seasons. Non as long as the two year off season that i have been on since my injury. I could not be more excited to get back in the drivers seat and behind the wheel. Im setting a few goals for myself.I am currently still able to win the rookie of the year in Kawathas Late Model division. I would like to add that to my other rookie of the year trophies from a variety of other tracks. My all time goal is to finish within the top ten in points. There is also a program called drive for diversity that i would like to apply to next year. If we have a decent season this year i think that we could be more then elligable for the program. I feel very positive going into this season and I truly hope that this positivity will carry through and help the team to get faster every week.

Kawartha Speedway 2012: Feeling the Chill at Fraserville
By Jim Clarke, Kawartha Speedway PR/Clarke Motorsports Communications

To say the least, winter weather can be unpredictable. When Kawartha Speedway officials scheduled the 2012 edition of the Long John 200 Endurance event, there was no way to check the forecast. As the show drew closer, a long range guess for sunny skies and a high temperature near the freezing mark was pinpointed to offer a near perfect day for cold weather racing. Even a light, early morning dusting of snow could keep the hearty souls – numbering more than 400 – from the year’s first taste of action. As expected, many chose to watch the action outside instead of taking advantage of the enclosed grandstand.

Shawn McGlynn Preparing For Trip To New Smyrna Speedway
Prepared by Shawn McGlynn Racing - 1/24/2012

Shawn McGlynn of Kitchener, Ontario will be racing at New Smyrna Speedway in Florida during Speedweeks. The team has acquired a Super Late Model from Ritchie Bros. auctioneers employee Les Harding. The Lefthander Chassis is one that McGlynn is currently tweaking and using ideas he has compiled from some of the big names like Chase Elliott, that competed at the Snowball Derby. Shawn’s father Roger is building a 700hp engine to go along with Shawn’s conventional sprung set-up, which some say will not be competitive against the teams running bump stops.

“We are excited to see if we can run at the front with this car and are preparing a number of moment centre and spindle combinations to test throughout the week” said McGlynn. “We have two sponsors so far for the week in Marvin Freiburger and Sons Truck Repair and Service out of Walkerton and Blast Floor Coating - an epoxy concrete restoration company in Waterloo.”

Watch for the #81 along with several other Canadians already registered to compete during Speedweeks in February. For more information visit: http://newsmyrnaspeedway.org/

Kawartha Speedway Mourns the Loss of Mike Johnson
By: Jim Clarke, Kawartha Speedway PR/Clarke Motorsports Communications - 1/4/2012

Every speedway around the world has one. A fixture: someone who although is always at the racetrack, but has never driven a lap in competition. At Kawartha Speedway, that fixture was Mike Johnson. An independent news videographer by profession, Johnson was best known for his car with just one front seat, multiple radio antennas on its roof and a number of scanners that monitored police, ambulance and fire broadcast frequencies. Based in Lindsay, Ontario he regularly supplied accident, fire and other emergency-related video footage to television stations and networks in the Kawartha region and the GTA. Johnson also chronicled the on-track action at Kawartha Speedway, making the footage available to drivers, fans and speedway officials – as well as compiling a weekly DVD that aired on the Cogeco community television channels in Lindsay and Peterborough.
