Kawartha Speedway 2012: Practice Perfects Performance
By Jim Clarke, Kawartha Speedway PR/Clarke Motorsports Communications
Smart racecar drivers know there’s no easy path to victory lane. You can’t ask for directions at a gas station or speak to someone
on the street. Its one of the few places you’ll never get to using Mapquest or a GPS. Hard work and racing luck may be the only sure
fire way to find your way to the winner’s circle. With Kawartha Speedway’s 2012 campaign inching closer at every tick of the clock,
the 3/8th mile oval at Fraserville, Ontario will host an open practice session for their 3 regular divisions – and any driver looking
to take some laps on one of the finest racing facilities in the province – Friday, May 25th.

Linc Brown Takes a Step Closer to the Year’s First Green Flag
By Jim Clarke, Clarke Motorsports Communications
The hours may be long, but the rewards are many. Getting a racecar ready for action at the local speedway is hard work. There’s
much more to it than just filling the tank with gas and hoping for the best. Linc Brown has been away from Kawartha Speedway’s weekly
wars since the end of the 2008 season, but his heart has never lost the desire to compete. With the 2012 campaign getting closer every
day, the Colborne, Ontario runner crossed another item off his pre-season checklist as this year’s graphics package was applied to the
#99 Kawartha Metals/The Wolf 101.5 Radio/Don Butt Auto Body/Mayhew Graphics/Clarke Motorsports Communications Dodge Charger.

Burning Passion Fuels Larry Jackson’s Championship Chase
By Jim Clarke, Kawartha Speedway PR/Clarke Motorsports Communications
Racecar drivers earn a living in a variety of different professions. At the short track level, few weekly runners – even the most
successful in any division – can’t look at paying the bills with the money they earn at the track. Larry Jackson – who captured the NAPA Auto
Parts ACT Late Model title at Kawartha Speedway in 2007 – is a full time professional firefighter. An acting captain with the City of
Mississauga fire department, Jackson says he loves the competition at the Fraserville 3/8th mile oval.

Putting a Plan Into Action: Linc Brown Signs Kawartha Metals to Back 2012 Late Model Program at Kawartha
By Jim Clarke, Clarke Motorsports Communications
Just over 6 months ago, Linc Brown issued a press release that indicated he was considering a return to the weekly wars at Kawartha
Speedway. The 46 year-old Colborne, Ontario racer – who finished 2nd in points during the 2007 season and 7th in the final 2008 tally –
had been on a sabbatical from the track’s headline division, but a true racer knows that a passion for the sport never completely leaves

JP Josiasse is a Good Neighbour
By Jim Clarke, Kawartha Speedway PR/Clarke Motorsports Communications
Speedway promoters are a unique breed. They’re not just sitting back counting the money as the crowd comes through the gates. In
most cases, they’re fans of the sport and in some instances, even competitors. Kawartha’s Derek Lynch is a race winner in the NASCAR
Canadian Tire Series and has turned laps on some of North America’s most famous venues. Sunset Speedway’s Mark Dilley still campaigns
a competitive Canadian Tire Series ride and at Brighton Speedway, Mark Rinaldi raced a street stock on a limited basis and even climbed
behind the wheel of a DIRTcar sportsman modified. JP Josiasse – owner and promoter at Peterborough Speedway – is cut from the same
cloth.

Short track stock car racers share a unique passion for their craft. Wherever they race; whatever the division, most understand that at this level of competition, what they do is more of a hobby than a vocation. There is money to be made in the world of motorsports, but doing so often requires taking many steps up the ladder and considerable personal sacrifice. Rob Flindall is quite familiar with the joys and pitfalls of his chosen leisure-time activity. To say the least, winter weather can be unpredictable. When Kawartha Speedway officials scheduled the 2012 edition of the Long John 200 Endurance event, there was no way to check the forecast. As the show drew closer, a long range guess for sunny skies and a high temperature near the freezing mark was pinpointed to offer a near perfect day for cold weather racing. Even a light, early morning dusting of snow could keep the hearty souls – numbering more than 400 – from the year’s first taste of action. As expected, many chose to watch the action outside instead of taking advantage of the enclosed grandstand.

Kawartha Speedway Mourns the Loss of Mike Johnson
By: Jim Clarke, Kawartha Speedway PR/Clarke Motorsports Communications - 1/4/2012
Every speedway around the world has one. A fixture: someone who although is always at the racetrack, but has never driven a lap in competition. At Kawartha Speedway, that fixture was Mike Johnson. An independent news videographer by profession, Johnson was best known for his car with just one front seat, multiple radio antennas on its roof and a number of scanners that monitored police, ambulance and fire broadcast frequencies. Based in Lindsay, Ontario he regularly supplied accident, fire and other emergency-related video footage to television stations and networks in the Kawartha region and the GTA. Johnson also chronicled the on-track action at Kawartha Speedway, making the footage available to drivers, fans and speedway officials – as well as compiling a weekly DVD that aired on the Cogeco community television channels in Lindsay and Peterborough.

By: Jim Clarke, Kawartha Speedway PR/Clarke Motorsports Communications - 1/3/2012
Every racecar driver looks forward to their first main event win and while some might wait their entire career for that sweet taste of success; Brad Martin became one of the fortunate few with his triumph Friday, July 15th at Kawartha Speedway. Quiet and intense – quick to blame himself for anything that goes wrong with the car – the pilot of the Bio 2000 Pressure Wash/JJ Stewart Chrysler/Xtreme Motorsports/Rhino’s Roadhouse/Kennedy’s NAPA, Cobourg/ Kawartha Metals/Canadian Industrial Service/Stacey Dismantling/ Ron McGuire/Keith Brown #53 Dodge Neon was the class of the Hasiuk Trailer and Container Rental Mini Stock field on this night – winning his heat race, semi feature and the 50 lap main event – and enjoyed a moment the sophomore runner felt was long overdue.

By: Jim Clarke, Kawartha Speedway PR/Clarke Motorsports Communications - 12/20/2011
Close. They say it only counts in horseshoes (and occasionally hand grenades). Midway through Kawartha Speedway’s 2011 season, it looked like Port Hope, Ontario’s Bryan Mercer was close to earning his first career NAPA Auto Parts ACT Late Model track championship. After scoring a 3rd place finish on opening night, the 15 year veteran racer picked-up a convincing win in the season’s first 100 lap invitational – his first main event win since 2006. Brian Watts Looks To 'Brake' Away From The Pack
By: Jim Clarke, Kawartha Speedway PR/Clarke Motorsports Communications - 12/16/2011
Take a few moments to wander through the pit area at your favourite weekly racetrack and one thing is very evident. The racers look younger year after year. Drivers have more opportunities to develop their skills, gain experience and sharpen their talents in go karts and the track’s entry level divisions before taking a turn at the headline class. Kawartha Speedway isn’t much different...except for one possible exception. 50 year-old Uxbridge, Ontario racer Bryan Watts says he’s looking to show everyone at the 3/8th mile Fraserville oval that ‘old guys rule’. The Vice President of OE Quality Friction, makers of VORTEX Brake Pads could’ve started slowly like everyone else, but instead chose to get his feet wet running with the NAPA Auto Parts ACT Late Models.

Earl Ireland Finally Feels At Home In Fraserville
By: Jim Clarke, Kawartha Speedway PR/Clarke Motorsports Communications - 12/8/2011
Every racer looks for an edge. The certain elements that will help them get the most out of their abilities and equipment. No matter how many changes you make to the chassis, spring rate, suspension components or tire pressures, there is little that will help their overall performance as much as experience. Even though he’d been active at the controls of sportsman, super late model, OSCAAR, Flex-Mor Series and OSLR equipment since 1987, Earl Ireland faced a steep learning curve when he returned to the driver’s seat to start the 2010 season at Kawartha Speedway. The Peterborough, Ontario auto dealer may have struggled through his inaugural year in the NAPA Auto Parts ACT Late Model division, but he found his niche and earned a 7th place finish in the final 2011 standings.

Cole McFadden is Chasing a Big Time Racing Dream
By Jim Clarke, Kawartha Speedway PR/Clarke Motorsports Communications - 12/2/2011
Don’t ask to see his driver’s licence, because he’s too young to have one. Woodville, Ontario’s Cole McFadden celebrated his 14th birthday in September (of 2011), but he already has more than a full season of competition in Kawartha Speedway’s Hasiuk Trailer and Container Rental Mini Stock division under his belt. The 9th grade student at Fenelon Falls Secondary School did well enough in the 2011 season to finish 10th in points at the Fraserville, Ontario 3/8th miler and also picked-up a feature win just up highway 28 at Peterborough Speedway. Considering he made his first career start at the age of 12 in a Honda Civic that carried a sticker reading “small boy, big dreams” on its back bumper, the future is very bright.

Whether you’re a driver, crew member, fan or even a track employee, it’s very easy to get hooked on racing.
